Emma Derrick was only 15-years-old when she moved out of her mother's home and decided to live on her own. "The saddest part was leaving my little brother and sister behind. Wanting to make money to provide something better for them really motivated me," Emma explains as she reflects on her past.As a teenager who was going to be taking care of herself without any help, Emma dropped out of school and began working. A brief career as a waitress in a diner led her to waiting tables in a strip club. Exposed to such an environment at an impressionable age was what encouraged Emma to try exotic dancing herself. "The money was great. I could make three or four hundred within a few hours and think nothing of it," Emma admits, providing a reason for why she would chose this line of work.
Dancing in a strip club was not exactly the job Emma had in mind. "I thought I would do it just a few times so I could pay rent and buy food and what not. Then, I thought I would be done with it. Like, I thought I would eventually go to school or get something better."
By Emma's eighteenth birthday, she had already stripped at a dozen or more clubs throughout Great Britain. Along with exotic dancing came the jobs on the side. "We all did it. Every last one of us did it. I don't care who you are or where you come from, if you dance, you do it too." Emma claims, referring to prostitution. She admits she would prostitute on the side for extra money when she needed it. One night after performing a totally nude session at Bunny's, one of the sleaziest strip clubs in Liverpool, Emma was approached by a man. His name was Tommy.
"He seemed real nice. He was dressed good, like, he was fit and smelled lovely, you know. He wasn't really my type, but, he was better than the other blokes who'd come up to me. He had a lot of money, too."
